At Picture the Past, our work is grounded in care—for your memories, your family history, and the stories that photos help bring to life. This isn’t just a service. It’s something deeply personal.
I'm David, the founder of Picture the Past. I’ve spent years photographing theater, events, and real estate—but what always draws me back is the way photos hold meaning beyond the frame. They help us remember. They help us grieve. They help us share the people and places that shaped us.
Preservation matters to me because I’ve seen what’s lost when we don’t take the time to protect the fragile things—photos stuck to old glass, slides fading in boxes, tapes warped by time. But I’ve also seen what’s possible when we treat those materials with care and patience: people get to reconnect with their history, share moments with the next generation, and literally picture the past alongside the people they love.
Our name and logo include a greyhound in honor of one of my own dogs who has passed. He was a constant in my life, and the photos I have of him are some of the most important images I own. That kind of personal connection is what drives this work—it’s not about volume, it’s about meaning.
We're proud to be based in Lafayette, Indiana and to serve our local community with scanning, restoration, conversion, and printing services. Every project we take on is a little different. Some items come to us damaged or delicate, others are in pristine shape, but all of them matter. We treat your materials like we’d want ours treated—with respect, patience, and transparency.
Whether you’re organizing family albums, digitizing old media, or looking to preserve pieces of local or organizational history, we’re here to help you hold onto what matters.
